Dedicated to Tree Preservation in the Urban Forest

Soil Amendments

Urban soils can be limited in both physical and chemical properties that encourage healthy plant growth.  Limits in organic matter and nutrients such as available iron, nitrogen, and other micro and macro elements can magnify stress factors contributing poor tree and shrub health.  Aiding soil properties by incorporating organic carbon and plant nutrients can help with plant survival.   Putting these amendments into the root zone allow the plant to recover the readily available nutrients.   Adding these amendments also puts a healthy dose of water at the root zone where it is needed most.  Applications can be made in both the spring and fall when roots are active, both are equally beneficial.  Our soil amendment program is a mixture of slow and quick release nitrogen, organic matter, and other beneficial nutrients to give plants the boost needed to reduce stress factors, enhance growth and improve overall health.

Ferrous Sulfate

Host: Most commonly maple

Some trees and shrubs have difficulty absorbing nutrients from the soil.  Poor physical properties of many Colorado front range soils limit the availability of iron.  Chlorosis is the result of this unavailability of iron in the soil, reflected in yellowing of the leaf with the leaf veins remaining green.  If left untreated, this condition can lead to die back of the crown and eventually death.  Ferrous Sulfate is a proven product to help correct chlorosis by changing soil ph and adding iron in a plant available form.  More than one application may be needed per season depending on species, soil physical properties, and severity of yellowing.

Fruit Reduction

Host: Most fruit bearing trees

Fruit trees are some of the most beautiful trees in the spring; however, undesirable fruit production can be very messy to clean up.  Fruit reduction treatments can help lessen unwanted fruit.  Treatments are done in early spring to provide the best possible results.  Some fruit may still persist even after treatment.

Lawn Care Treatments

Our approach to lawn care is simple and as environmentally friendly as possible.  We use a blended liquid fertilizer with both quick and slow release nitrogen, micro and macro nutrients, and organic matter twice a year.  Turf insects and fungus are identified and treated within your lawn as needed.  The basic lawn care treatment includes a spring pre-emergent and fertilization, insect treatment where needed, broad leaf weed spray of the entire lawn, broad leaf weed spot spray where needed, fall fertilization.

Organic treatments such as Revive are available upon request.  We also offer an anti-dessucant produced that aids in moisture retention during hot dry periods.

Systemic Soil Injections

Merit/Safari/Orthene

Systemic insecticides are chemicals developed to be uses as insect treatments where by the produce is injected into the soil.  The various produces are deposited and  stored in the plant tissue (leaves, stems, and twigs) killing insects (aphids and scale) that suck or chew on these plant parts.  Systemic have been tested and proven to control a wide variety of insects.  Systemic can last up to a year or as little as thirty days.  Uptake can take from one week to sixty days  Watering around the injection site is recommended to help the plant absorb the product.

Weed Control

Weeds are unwanted plants and can be a problem that may last front months to years.  There are cool and warm season, perennial and annual weeds. Weed control is applied according to the type of weed and the season when control is most effective.   A blanket spray is a treatment of the entire area.  This may be needed in the spring or after rain fall when weeds are most active.  In most cases a spot spray is just as effective.  Only weeds that are visible will be treated.

Wilt Proof

Host: Conifers, Evergreens, and Lawns

Our winters in Colorado grow more and more mild every year.  Trees, especially conifers and evergreens loose much needed moisture during our mild winters.  This is due to a combination of warm weather, wind and lack of moisture. Wilt proof is a polymer  applied to the trees, this helps needles retain moisture during the winter months and extreme dry periods.  One to two applications is recommend depending on weather condition.  Even with this treatment, winter watering is recommend.
